Rest and Freedom

God offered rest for His people, but because of their unbelief they were not able to enter it.
Psalm 95:10-11
“For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways."So I declared on oath in my anger,
"They shall never enter my rest."

You can still find rest for your soul.

Hebrews 4:9-10
“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.”

Jesus is the rest.

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Under God’s rest, Jesus was the one who worked for all the requirements of the law for you.

Romans 8:3-4
“For what the law was powerless to do…. …, God did by sending his own son…….. to be a sin offering……. in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us.”

The gospel of grace was preached to the people of the old covenant, but they did not believe it.

Hebrews 4:2-3
“For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith….…"So I declared on oath in my anger, `They shall never enter my rest.' "

The world cannot see the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ because Satan has blinded their minds. The sad reality is that even the church was blinded and cannot see the fullness of God’s grace in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 4:4
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

Now the only requirement for you to enter God’s rest is to believe in Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:3a
“Now we who have believed enter that rest.”

Once you have entered God’s rest, make sure to stay rested in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:11
“Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest.”

Remember: God’s Grace is rest and the Law is work.

God wants us to rest. Anything that depends on you speaks of unrest.

Psalm 62:1
“My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.”

Jesus came to proclaim freedom and liberty

Luke 4:18-19
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Christ came to set us free from the law.

Galatians 4:4
“But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”

Christ came not only to set you free from the law but to give you the full rights of a son.

Christ came to set us free from the power of sin.

1 Corinthians 15:56b
“The power of sin is the law.”

Christ came to set us free from the yoke of Law’s slavery.

Galatians 5:1
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Christ came to redeem us from the curse of the law.

Galatians 3:13
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.”

Galatians 3:10
“All who rely on observing the law are under a curse.”

Psalm 91:1
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Grace is rest and Law is work.
