Enter the promised land

THE “FINISHED WORK” OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS IS OUR “PROMISED LAND”!
WHEN GOD BROUGHT THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL OUT OF EGYPT, HE WANTED TO BRING THEM TO A LAND FLOWING WITH MILK AND HONEY WHICH TYPIFIES A “FINISHED WORK.”
“So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:8).

NOTICE HOW GOD’S DESCRIBED THE “PROMISED LAND”
Deu. 6:10-12
“When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you-
a land with large, flourishing cities YOU DID NOT BUILD,
houses filled with all kinds of good things YOU DID NOT PROVIDE,
wells YOU DID NOT DIG, and
vineyards and olive groves YOU DID NOT PLANT--then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the LORD”

WHEN THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL REACH THE LAND, THEY WERE AFRAID OF THE GIANTS. UNDER THE NEW COVENANT, THE LAND FLOWING WITH MILK AND HONEY IS “GOD’S REST IN CHRIST” AND INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH MANY BELIEVERS ARE AFRAID TO ENTER IT.

WHEN THEY FAILED TO ENTER THE PROMISED LAND, GOD WAS ANGRY WITH THEM AND SWORE THAT THEY WILL NEVER ENTER HIS REST.
“So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest’” (Hebrews. 4:3b).

EVEN IF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL OCCUPIED THE LAND OF CANAAN AFTER FORTY YEARS, THEY NEVER ENTERED GOD’S REST.
“For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day” (Hebrews 4:8-11).

TODAY, GOD’S REST REMAINS FOR US TO ENTER INTO. WHEN YOU ENTER GOD’S REST, YOU WILL REST FROM YOUR WORK JUST AS GOD DID FROM HIS.
“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience”
(Hebrews 4:9-11).

WHEN GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY, HE WAS REFRESHED. THEREFORE WHEN WE REST IN CHRIST WE WILL ALSO BE REFRESHED.
“For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’” (Exo. 31:17b).

TIMES OF REFRESHING COME WHEN YOU ARE FULLY RESTED IN CHRIST!

THE INHERITANCE OR THE LAND FLOWING WITH MILK AND HONEY FOR THE NEW CREATION PEOPLE (THE CHURCH) IS “GOD’S REST.”
“For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest” (Hebrews 4:2-3).

THE ONLY EFFORT YOU NEED TO EXERT IS TO STAY RESTED IN CHRIST!
“For anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience” (Hebrews. 4:10).

IN SPITE THE FACT THAT WE ARE NO LONGER SLAVES, BUT SONS, MANY BRETHREN STILL HAVE THE SLAVE-MENTALITY AND REFUSE TO REST IN CHRIST.
“But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir”
(Galatians 4:4-7).

MAINTAINING A LAW-ORIENTED MINDSET WHILE YOU ARE UNDER THE NEW COVENANT OF GRACE WILL CERTAINLY PULL YOU OUT OF REST IN CHRIST.

WHAT HINDERED ISRAEL FROM ENTERING THE PROMISED LAND WERE THE DESCENDANTS OF ANAK (anak - means a yoke or a chain around the neck) OR THE GIANTS IN THE LAND.
“There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight” (Numbers 13:33).

TODAY, WHAT HINDER BELIEVERS FROM ENTERING GOD’S REST IS “THE YOKE OF SLAVERY” (the yoke of Law).
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).

AND JESUS SAID:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30)
